Free Community Pitch-In / Dumpster Day
The CCA is hosting a Community Pitch-In Day featuring a FREE community dumpster on Saturday, November 14. The dumpster will be located either on Lakewood Ave just north of Boston St., alongside the Safeway or adjacent on O’Donnell St. from approximately 9:00 am until full. (Start time may vary as it’s contingent upon DPW’s schedule.) Plan to go early as it usually fills fast. All are invited to Dumpster Dive to divert waste from our landfill as well.
Leaf Collection Has Started: Keep Leaves Out of the Trash
This year’s leaf collection is plastic-free! DPW is asking residents to use brown paper lawn and leaf bags instead of plastic bags, which will not be accepted. Properly bagged leaves will be repurposed through DPW’s landfill operations rather than sent to the incinerator.
What Residents Need to Know
Use brown paper lawn and leaf bags. Plastic bags will not be accepted.
Have your leaves ready on your scheduled pickup date.
DPW will collect up to 20 bags and bundles per scheduled pickup.
For more than 5 bags, call 311 before 6 p.m. on Sunday to arrange a leaf collection for the following Monday.
Get up to five free paper lawn and leaf bags at DPW Residential Recycling Centers, while supplies last.
Keep Leaves Out of the Street and Gutters - Please gather and bag leaves along the curb rather than leaving them in the street or gutters. Piles of leaves can damage street sweepers and block storm drains, preventing proper drainage.
This is the first step toward a new approach to managing yard waste in Baltimore. Questions? Email publicworks@baltimorecity.gov.
Fire Prevention – No Firepits!
As the season changes and the weather cools it’s tempting to purchase a firepit or outdoor stove to gather around, grab a Boh, and #GetNeighborly. But, neighbors, this is the least neighborly thing you can do! This is highly dangerous, unsafe, and ILLEGAL in Baltimore City. To paraphrase City Code section 307 “Open burning, recreational fires, and portable outdoor fireplaces may not be operated within 15 feet of any structure, combustible material, or property line.” Please be a responsible neighbor, follow the fire code, and DON’T engage in any form of open flame on your deck, sidewalk, or in your yard!! The community thanks you.
