The meeting started at 6:30PM.

Maura welcomed everyone.
Announcements – Maura:
Dumpster Day is Saturday, September 19 near the Safeway.
Canco Movie Night is Tuesday, September 22 showing Mamma Mia! and is free.

The Day of Giving is Saturday, December 12 on the Square. This is with the Exchange Club of Southeast Baltimore. Canned goods and toys will be collected.
The Project ODSP (O’Donnell Square Project) has a contractor now. The date for breaking ground will be sometime in November or December.
Canton Canopy is planning a fall tree planting date soon.
There will be a Canco Halloween Pet Contest event on Sunday, November 1.
Mike Sedlak spoke about Hampstead Hill Academy holding the 1st Annual Charity Tournament – HHA Open on Monday, October 26 at Rocky Point Golf Course. Fliers are available in the back. Volunteers and sponsors are needed.
Update from Councilman Mark Parker – Canton Waterfront Recent Issues:
This was about the Lemon Drop event on Saturday, August 29. The Chic Nic event was Sunday, August 30. Councilman Parker couldn’t be present tonight. He sent a statement which Maura read. He said meeting with the Department of Public Works (DPW) and the CCA will lead to working on developing and trying to improve the process. With 12 months of data from the Department of Transportation (DOT), this will allow Mark’s office to look into other parks. He knows there are weaknesses in the process and concerns.
DOT, Rec and Parks, Housing and the Baltimore Police Department (BPD) will be meeting with the Mayor’s Office.
If anyone has concerns they will be passed on to Councilman Parker. We will be kept updated on any meetings.
Presentations:
Team 46 – State Delegate Robbyn Lewis:
Delegate Lewis said the three delegates (Mark Edelson, Luke Clippinger and herself) and State Senator Bill Ferguson are known as the most functional and close-knit group. They work closely with Councilman Parker.
Robbyn lives in the Patterson Park area and is in the field of Public Health. She talked about the Livable Streets Coalition which aims to improve pedestrian safety and is excited that the CCA may be joining the Coalition.
Robbyn said there are important policy matters. One is the Consolidated Transportation Budget which is updated every six years. The counties and the City are asked what they like.
Someone mentioned that bikes and scooters on the sidewalk can be dangerous.
On September 30 the Maryland Department of Transportation (MDOT) is coming to Baltimore City to present a budget. The State Delegates will be attending a Transportation Planning Tool meeting.
There was mention of getting better red light signals. Speed bumps can be a solution but DOT needs to conduct a survey. People can contact 311 or send emails with these various issues.
Baltimore Compost Collective – Marvin Hayes:
He spoke about how burning trash creates gas and other stuff in landfills. Trash can be diverted. He needs to have 25 people sign up to have compost collected. There is a fee. It will be taken to City gardens.
Cherry Hill and Sisson Street can take this material. He also mentioned environmental injustices with breathing issues. Curtis Bay is especially affected.
Marvin said there is a deal in place to have Baltimore County’s trash brough to Baltimore City to be burned.
Pet Kolo – Jill Harland:
This is a “Community-Powdered Pet Sitting” network. It offers overnight stays for pets at affordable prices.
Port of Baltimore – Angie Ashley:
There is information available in the back including a Community Engagement Survey. She asked that folks fill it out thanking them for participating. Angie said there is a lot of activity at the Port. They are working on being a good neighbor. They do dredging and are working on air quality. They are working on a Baltimore Port Alliance.
Baltimore City Police – Ricardo Cabreja:
He said as far as car larcenies we need to be aware of things. They have boxes of clubs available for those who want them. His Major has more data. However, he couldn’t attend tonight’s meeting. There are initiatives underway for the stores at Canton Crossing.
Baltimore City State’s Attorney’s Office – Natasha Zepeda:
There is a community meeting Tuesday, September 29 from 6-8P at Ark Church (1263 E. North Avenue).
This meeting is to discuss proposed legislation aimed at strengthening accountability and protecting residents from false or misleading statements during court proceedings.
The court date for the “Canton Flasher” is Wednesday, September 23.
Miscellaneous:
United Evangelical Church – Terri Bragg reminded us to dispose of our trash tonight. She also said bags of dog waste have been found in the church’s trash cans.
Joe Koehler said the CCA recently lost an important member – Marvin Ingram. He was involved in the Canton Anti-Racism Alliance and other groups.
