Free Movie Night at Canco
August’s Movie Night was a big success, so we’ll have a repeat in September! Chesapeake Wine Co. will host another free movie night at Canco Baltimore (2400 Boston St.), in collaboration with 7th Street Burger and Poke Taco. The Canton Community Association will be there, too. Join the CCA on the stop and get free candy! September date and movie are TBD, so watch our social media for details.

Free Movie Night at Waterfront Waterfront Park  
Rhythm & Reels is a community collaboration bringing movies and concerts to city parks. Catch Wicked for Good on Saturday, September 19 and Dirty Dancing on Saturday, September 26, both are 7-10 p.m. $10 pp. Bring a blanket and enjoy a night under the stars! For more info Visit Baltimore.

Free Community Pitch-In / Dumpster Day  
The CCA is hosting a Community Pitch-In Day featuring a FREE community dumpster on Saturday, September 19. The dumpster will be located either on Lakewood Ave just north of Boston St., alongside the Safeway or adjacent on O’Donnell St. from approximately 9:00 am until full. (Start time may vary as it’s contingent upon DPW’s schedule.) Plan to go early as it usually fills fast. All are invited to Dumpster Dive to divert waste from our landfill as well. New rules apply for 2025, in particular no large appliances, construction debris or yard waste.

 Acceptable materials at the dump include household trash, furniture, cans, glass, plastics, paper, and cardboard. No toxic or hazardous waste.

Unacceptable materials include paint, solvents, pesticides, pool chemicals, acids, caustics, gasoline, mercury thermometers/thermostats, syringes, fire extinguishers, propane tanks, helium tanks, batteries, fluorescent light bulbs, tires, metal, yard waste, construction debris, automotive waste/parts, and any other solid, liquid, or gaseous substance that is regulated as hazardous by State or federal law. No “white goods” to include refrigerators, freezers, ovens, washing machines, and dryers.

Are you a dumpster diver? This is also a great opportunity to score items to recycle, reuse, and repurpose. Come on out and take a look!

Registration is now open for the fall 2026 Introduction to Planting class. Learn how to care for and maintain our urban tree canopy, hear from community TreeKeepers, and get hands-on experience alongside forestry experts. The class is Wednesday, September 16, from 6–8:30 PM at Greenmount Recreation Center, followed by a weekend field session on either September 19 or 27. Details and registration: TreeBaltimore.org

Butchers Hill Flea Market & Crafts Fair returns Saturday, September 19, from 9 AM to 2 PM! Stop by Patterson Park near the Observatory for this free community event and browse a great selection of treasures, crafts, vintage finds and more.

Canton Ace Hardware Ladies Night  (GRAPHIC)
Ladies Night is back at Canton Ace Hardware! Join us Tuesday, September 8, from 5–8 PM at 3420 O’Donnell Street for 20% off the entire store, vendor demos, drinks, treats, giveaways, goodie bags for the first 50 guests, free knife sharpening, music by DJ Ace and more! This free event is a fun, hands-on introduction to home improvement and a great night with the local community. Space is limited, so RSVP is encouraged!

Edgar Allen Row Paddling Meetup
Join Waterfront Partnership of Baltimore for Edgar Allen Row a FREE Paddling meetup on October 10. Grab a kayak, canoe, rowboat, or stand-up paddleboard, don your best Poe-inspired attire, and launch from anywhere along the Baltimore Blueway and then make your way to Fells Point. Paddlers will gather on the water in front of Pitango Bakery in Fells Point at 4:00 PM before setting out on a spooky journey through Baltimore Harbor featuring readings of Edgar Allan Poe classics. The evening will culminate at Mr. Trash Wheel with a reading of fan favorite “The Raven.” Costumes are highly encouraged. Atlantic Union Bank opened at its debut Baltimore location at 4004 Boston Street, suite 103, with a ribbon-cutting and grand opening celebration. More details next month.

CCA Free Community Pitch-In / Dumpster Days 2026

Lakewood Ave, alongside Safeway just north of Boston Street (or adjacent to the Circle Park on O’Donnell Street) from approximately 9:00 am until noon or until full. Plan to go early, as it usually fills fast. 

CCA Committees / Volunteer Opportunities

The CCA has a variety of volunteer opportunities that enable neighbors to share their time and talent with the community. We’d love to see some fresh faces join our committees – especially our Public Safety, Membership, and Transportation committees. CCA committees include Arts, Economic Development, Education, Marketing, Membership, Public Safety, Transportation, Social, Sustainability, and Volunteer. The CCA also oversees the Friends of Canton Dog Park & Friends O’Donnell Square, and partners with Canton Canopy, the Canton Anti-Racism Alliance, and the I Wonder Garden.
