Neighborhood Notes: August 2026

Celebrate the end of summer with one last family-friendly afternoon before school starts! Join us on Saturday, August 15, from 12–3 p.m. at SoPro (Southern Provisions),  3000 O’Donnell Street, for free crafts, games, and activities for kids of all ages. Food and drinks will be available for purchase. Admission is free, but RSVP is requested through Eventbrite. Bring the family and enjoy a fun-filled sendoff to summer!

The BIG Show at Creative Alliance
Explore, collect, and celebrate local art at The BIG Show, Creative Alliance’s salon-style members exhibition, featuring a record 130 works by Baltimore-area artists. The exhibition is on view through August 29 at Creative Alliance, 3134 Eastern Avenue. On August 29, join the free Closing Reception from 6–8 p.m., followed by The BIG Party featuring Landis Expandis from 8–10 p.m. Party tickets are $23 for non-members and free for members. Become a member to enjoy free admission and help support The BIG Show’s return in 2027.

CMT Beer Pong Tournament Fundraiser
Support the Charcot-Marie-Tooth Association (CMTA) at the Bite Back Against CMT Beer Pong Tournament on Sunday, August 9, from 1–4 p.m. at Mobtown Brewing Company. Entry is $15 and includes one drink ticket. A portion of proceeds will benefit CMTA research, awareness, and support programs. Come compete for bragging rights, cheer on your friends, or simply enjoy an afternoon of community and fundraising for a great cause. All ages are welcome; participants must be 21+ to play. Registration is required.

Canco Open Air Market (photos - you pick)
Join us at Canco for an Open Air Market on Sunday, August 30, from 9-noon. The market will feature an exciting mix of vendors offering everything from fresh florals and coffee to handmade pasta, jewelry, candles, and so much more. The Market will continue on Sundays: August 30, September 27th and October 25 at 2400 Boston Street. To vend hello@cancobaltimore.com.

Tuesday Farm Stand
Stoecker Farms Produce is popping up for the Summer on Tuesday mornings from (approx.) 9:30 am-11 am in front of the Hatton Senior Center at the corner of Linwood & Fait. Look for seasonal fruits and veggies including corn, tomatoes, zucchini, beets, and more. 

Summer Break Baltimore 2026
Summer Break Baltimore runs through August 15 at the Enoch Pratt Free Library. Summer Break Baltimore is a literacy-based program where participants of all ages will receive a book and a bingo card, and upon completion of activities receive a t-shirt and other fun prizes! Sign up online to participate. The Canton Library is located at 1030 S. Ellwood St. 

Patterson Park Public Pool Schedule 2026
Patterson Park Pool is now open on weekdays with the following schedule:
Mondays: Open Swim 12–3pm & 3:30–5pm; Adult Swim (21+) 5:30–7pm; Tuesdays: Closed for maintenance; Wednesdays–Thursdays: Open Swim 12–3pm & 4–7pm; Fridays–Sundays: Open Swim 11am–3pm & 4–8pm

Baltimore Heritage History Tours
Baltimore Heritage has a full lineup of tours this summer, including the new Inner Harbor Boat & Trolley Tour and Buried in Plain Sight: The Black Family Servants in Green Mount Cemetery. Other upcoming tours explore Fell’s Point, Patterson Park, Federal Hill, the Maryland Zoo, and more. DPW: Trash and Recycling Guidelines
Let’s keep it clean, Baltimore! The Baltimore City Department of Public Works (DPW) reminds residents to follow the trash and recycling guidelines to help ensure safe and efficient collection services. Sidewalk, Tree Pits and Gutters
Neighbors, please be neighborly and keep your sidewalks and tree pits weeded. Also, keep an eye out for debris in the street gutters so water can properly flow to the storm drains. Also, since rainfall is down this summer, please show the trees some love and give them some water during hotter weeks. Thanks!

Reporting and Preventing Crime – Tip Line
The Baltimore City Police Department asks neighbors to report crimes via this TIP email: SEDtips@baltimorepolice.org. Security camera footage and photos should be included.

VIP TICKET GIVEAWAY TO FIRST THURSDAY!
WTMD returns for their 21st season of First Thursdays free concerts at Canton Waterfront Park on Thursday, August 6 at 5:30 p.m. featuring Son Little, Late Night Thoughts and Icarus Phoenix. We’re giving two lucky CCA members 2 VIP tickets to the show! To be eligible, sign up as a new member or renew your current membership to the Canton Community Association on/before 5 pm on Monday, August 3, 2026. The region’s largest free outdoor music festival will continue on September 3, 2026. There are food and beverage vendors on-site. No outside alcohol or coolers are permitted. DETAILS

Meetings are held at the United Evangelical Church at 3200 Dillon St. and live-streamed on the CCA Facebook page.

CCA Free Community Pitch-In / Dumpster Days 2026
The CCA hosts a Community Pitch-In Day featuring a FREE community dumpster  4x a year. 2026 days include March 7, May 30, September 19 and November 14. The dumpster will be located near 1011 S. Lakewood Ave, alongside Safeway just north of Boston Street (or adjacent to the Circle Park on O’Donnell Street) from approximately 9:00 am until noon or until full. Plan to go early, as it usually fills fast.

CCA Committees / Volunteer Opportunities
Please read our Life in Canton feature article on our much-needed volunteer roles!! The CCA has a variety of volunteer opportunities that enable neighbors to share their time and talent with the community. We’d love to see some fresh faces join our committees – especially our Public Safety, Membership, and Transportation committees. CCA committees include Arts, Economic Development, Education, Marketing, Membership, Public Safety, Transportation, Social, Sustainability, and Volunteer. The CCA also oversees the Friends of Canton Dog Park & Friends O’Donnell Square, and partners with Canton Canopy, the Canton Anti-Racism Alliance, and the I Wonder Garden.
