Bmore Community Fridge Network
/The Bmore Community Food Network (BCFN) coordinates free food, meals, and resources to support volunteer-run refrigerators in Southeast Baltimore and across the city, working to combat food insecurity and reduce waste. This volunteer-led effort partners with donors, local businesses, nonprofits, local food rescue organizations, and community members who cook, shop, transport, and supply essentials to ensure neighbors have consistent, free access to nutritious food.
Join the #OneMealBCFN Challenge
This December, BCFN invites you to take part in the #OneMealBCFN Challenge to help amplify their mission, bring more attention to the free fridges, and fight food insecurity in SE Baltimore and across the City.
Here’s all you have to do:
STEP 1: Make or rescue one meal. It can be a full dinner or as simple as a sandwich.
STEP 2: Snap a pic of yourself — or just the drop-off — as you place that meal into a community fridge.
STEP 3: Post the photo on your social media.
STEP 4: Add these hashtags: #OneMealBCFN #BCFN #OneMeal #BmoreCommunityFridgeNetwork
STEP 5: Tag at least one friend and challenge them to do the same!
This isn’t about cooking dozens of meals. It’s about proving that one meal can truly make a difference. It’s neighbors feeding neighbors one meal, one fridge at a time. 💛 Let’s make this go viral, Baltimore. 💛 Let’s show the world what community looks like.
About the Bmore Community Food Network (BCFN)
Launched in March, as of December 2025, the grassroots Bmore Community Fridge Network (BCFN) has grown to 21 fridges, 17 food pantries, and three pet pantries throughout Baltimore, with more on the way. Southeast Baltimore plays a major role in this network, with active locations at:
123 N. Linwood Avenue in Patterson Park (founded 2021)
410 N. Chester Street
814 N. Collington Avenue
819 S. Ellwood Avenue (Pet Pantry)
BCFN follows a “share what you can, take what you need” philosophy. Volunteers and donors are encouraged to give freely and let go. The network does not monitor who takes food or how much, creating a safe, judgment-free space for those in need.
Founded by four women to address rising food insecurity, BCFN is not a nonprofit and receives no city or government funding. Everything is sustained by volunteerism, or as they say, “neighbors feeding neighbors”. The founders include CCA Co-Marketing Chair and owner of Kik-line Design, Julie Kichline; Liz Miller, Lila Perilloux, and Marci Yankelov.
How can you volunteer?
You don’t have to cook to help. No matter your time, budget, or skills, anyone can participate:
Cook fresh meals: purchase or use donated ingredients to prepare meals for the fridges. Label each container with contents, “made on” date, and any allergens, then drop them off.
Donate groceries or supplies: Bring produce, pantry staples, hygiene supplies, or other essentials to fridge sites.
Collect to-go containers: Gather containers from neighbors, coworkers, friends, or local restaurants to help cooks and volunteers package meals.
Support local cooks financially: Many volunteer cooks accept monetary donations or share wish lists to help fund meal preparation.
Pick up and share food / volunteer with food rescue partners:
Join the “Feeding Baltimore” Facebook group to find daily food giveaways and bring extras to the fridges.
Leftover Love Inc. and Future Think Hub recover surplus food from businesses and events and rely on volunteers to pick up, sort, and redistribute rescued food to fridges or neighbors.
Transport donations: Move groceries, cooked meals, or supplies between cooks, rescue partners, and fridge sites.
Clean and maintain fridges: Wipe down interiors and exteriors, remove spoiled items, and bring basic cleaning.
If you want to cook or help transport meals in Canton, you can also join the hyper-local Bmore Cares Community Cooking Crew, a local volunteer group that was founded in 2022 to fill the Linwood Free Community Fridge near Patterson Park.
In the spirit of community care, Julie reminds us: “Sometimes we help, sometimes we need help, sometimes it’s both.”
