One way to support our neighbors of color is to shop and dine at Black-owned businesses. Our friend Simone at Charm City Table has started a social media campaign asking people to share food photos in support of Baltimore City restaurants during Black History Month.

CCA President Mark Edelson joined forces with the Southeast Youth & Families Engagement Organization to distribute food boxes from the Maryland Food Bank. The event, held at the Banner Neighborhoods office, was organized by 2020 CCA Volunteer of the Year and SYFEO President, Tray Smith.

Join local amateur historian Raymond D. Bahr, MD, of the Canton History Project, on Saturday, February 6 from 12:00-1:30pm as he presents his research into the Harris Creek watershed and the Canton Company.

The CCA will hold its annual Board Elections on Tuesday, February 16, 2021, during the virtual CCA Public Meeting which begins at 6:30 p.m.

There is no way to sugarcoat it, 2020 was a brutal year. Many families in our community, my own included, suffered devastating losses. Many others faced employment and food insecurity, struggling to create a semblance of the holiday spirit for their families. But there were silver linings; moments of true community, selflessness, caring for one’s neighbors, and acts of sheer empathy that reverberated throughout southeast Baltimore and beyond.

The CCA will hold its annual Board Elections on Tuesday, February 16, 2021, during the virtual CCA Public Meeting which begins at 6:30 p.m. Board terms are for 2 years, and members attend monthly meetings on the first Wednesday of each month, except December.

The Can Company is approaching 100% leased with the signing of four new tenants. The new uses will comprise of over 9,000 square feet of space including a restaurant, barbershop, electronics repair store and a primary care medical office, all new to Baltimore City.

A new pub, The Canton Local, is now open in the former QuarterHouse Tavern location at 801 S. Decker Ave. The restaurant features Irish food with a twist including Fish & Chip Eggrolls, Grilled Salmon BLT, Reuben Pit Beef, Irish Sloppy Joes, and more.

When Anthony Nastasi Jr. launched Mr. Nice Guy Cocktails in March, he figured it would be a temporary concept. Little did he know he would create the local role model for contactless dining (and drinking) during a global pandemic. Let’s go behind the pineapple to learn more about this “Nice Guy”.
