Simply Marie’s Celebrates 12 Years

Bmore Social Issues Book Club

Blackscope Cinema Series: Hargrove
Creative Alliance’s monthly Blackscope Cinema Series expands our understanding and appreciation of Black Film in America. Through varying programming, including talks, demos, and making activities, the Baltimore community is invited to celebrate modern and contemporary film from Black and Diasporic creators. The series kicks off on February 2 at 7 pm with Hargrove (2022) and features a Q+A with Hargrove director and producer, Eliane Henri, about the process of creating the film and documenting a legendary subject. Future film dates: 3/9, 4/1, 5/4.

 

Canton History Project Expands
Canton resident and local historian, Dr. Raymond Bahr, continues his work leading the Canton History Project. Two History Panels depicting the Maps of the Canton Company and how the Canton Company started back in 1828 were installed at the "Collective at Canton” and a new Canton Historic Marker of Frederick Douglass was added on the Baltimore Greenway Trail.

Adopt an Elder for Valentine’s Day
The Adopt an Elder program continues in 2023 with a Valentine’s Celebration. Neighbors can drop off gifts before February 9 at 1351 S. Clinton St. Please include your info with the gifts so that residents can thank you personally via a call, email, or a handwritten note. Look for info about a party to follow on the CCA FB page. To learn more about how you can participate or ask what gifts would be appreciated, please contact our favorite senior neighbor, Miss Joi. She asks you to DM her via Facebook.

 

Music on the Square Concert Series
The Music on the Square Concert features Across The Harbor on Friday, February 10 at 7 pm. This musical confluence melds Baltimore’s singer-songwriters with instrumentalists rooted in Bluegrass, Irish and Old-Time traditions. Featured artists include The Honey DewDrops, Caleb Stine, Letitia VanSant, Charm City Junction, and more. TICKETS. The concert series is held at Church on the Square located at 1025 S. Potomac Street, Baltimore, MD 21224.

Celebrate with Merritt Clubs Canton
Merritt Clubs is celebrating 20 years in Canton by opening its doors to the community. If you have not been to the club, now you can check out Merritt Clubs Canton for 20 days free. See why Merritt Clubs has been voted Best Club in Baltimore for 10 consecutive years. 

Bi-Weekly Recycling Continues
As recycling pick up continues every other week across Baltimore City, DPW tells us neighbors can dispose of their recycling on the “off weeks” at the PW Marine Operations Facility located at 3311 Eastbourne Avenue off Clinton Street south of Boston Street in Canton. Hours are Tuesday through Saturday 8 am – 2 pm.

2023 CCA Board Election Notice
The CCA will hold its annual Board Elections on Tuesday, February 21, 2023, during the public CCA Public Meeting (6:30 p.m. at the United Evangelical Church 3200 Dillon St). Board terms are for 2 years, and members attend monthly meetings on the first Wednesday of each month. Email info@cantoncommunity.org if you have any questions.

CCA Committees
CCA committees include Arts, Economic Development, Education, Marketing, Membership, Public Safety, Transportation, Social, Sustainability, and Volunteer. The CCA also oversees the Friends of Canton Dog Park and Friends O’Donnell Square, and partners with Canton Canopy, I Wonder Garden, and the Canton Anti-Racism Alliance.
