Further purposes shall be to improve and beautify our communtiy, educate ourselves and others to the benefits of urban gardenting, aid in the protection of trees, shrubs, wild flowers and birds, and to encourage horticulture and conservation practices.
The Canton Garden Association supports the community in a number of ways
- Maintenance of the reading gardens around the Canton branch of the Enoch Pratt Free Library.
- Participation in the Hampstead Hill Garden Club.
- Support of the Two Rivers Park project, the Canton Dog Park and Hatton Senior Center.
- Annual Greening presentation in conjunction with the Friends of the Canton Libary.
- Holiday decoration of library, greens workshop and preparation of arrangements for Seniors.
- Co-sponsorship of the Home and Garden Tour, along with the CCA.
The Canton Garden Association encourages the "greening" of Canton through the planting and preservation of trees. The Forestry Division of the Department of Recreation and Parks schedules pruning of street trees as well as recommending species to be used. It also regulates the planting of new street trees through an application process.
The next Home & Garden Tour is being planned for the late spring/early summer of 2007.
Note:
The Canton Garden Association (CGA) is an independent group, separate from the Canton Community Association.
