Community Meeting Planned for Canton Middle School Proposal

Following up on our previous post about the proposal to convert Canton Middle School into a city-wide charter school for grades 6-12, the Canton Connection Online has learned that there will be a meeting to discuss the proposal on Thursday, May 1, at 7:00 p.m. at United Evangelical Church (Batz's Church), 3200 Dillon Street.

Canton residents are invited to attend the meeting to find out more about the proposal and to ask questions. For more information, call Councilman Jim Kraft's office at (410) 396-4821.

I think that CCA should take a proactive approach to establish a positive and sustained interaction with the new school. One suggestion is to identify a board member or new board position whose major/sole responsibility will be to coordinate efforts between CMS and the CCA to improve the relationship between the neighborhood and the students.

I think kids from Canton should populate the school, or if there aren't enough, then close it and offer it up at auction.

Kids should go to schools in their own neighborhoods, period.

We did not buy a house in this neighborhood thinking we would have some of baltimore's unruliest going to 'school' down the street.

unless you get kids onto yellow busses and back into their own neighborhoods when school is out, you will see a sharp increase in crime, violence, and well, people moving out.
