DPW to Launch Single Stream Recycling in 2008

The Baltimore City Department of Public Works (DPW) has announced that, starting on January 8, it will pick up all recycling on the same day. For Canton, recycling pickups will be on the second and fourth Fridays of every month.

Cardboard and paper, glass and plastic bottles, and cans can be placed in a single container. DPW says that items should not be placed in plastic bags, as they will no longer be accepted.

Instead, residents can purchase an official recycling bin, or use a cardboard box or any other container that is clearly marked as "Recycling."

DPW says that the reason for switching to single-stream is to make recycling more convenient so that more residents will recycle their trash. Single-stream also has the advantage of eliminating the unpopular Monday pickups, which were frequently preempted by holidays.

For more information, visit the DPW's website. A reminder about the new dates and procedures has also been added to the CCA website's Trash and Recycling page.
